Community Health Systems Settles with 28 States Over Data Breach (1)

Community Health Systems Inc. agreed to pay $5 million to resolve an investigation by dozens of state attorneys general into a data breach that affected 6.1 million patients.

The hospital system also agreed to step up its data security measures and training for staff with access to health information, according to an announcement from Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost (R).

“Protecting patients is the job of a hospital and that includes shielding patients’ personal information from hackers,” Yost said in a statement.
