Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill Wednesday designed to prevent big tech companies and e-commerce websites from using consumer data without their consent.
The measure, S.B. 190, would let consumers say “no” to the collection, sharing, and selling of their personal data by online vendors and websites. Sponsors said it gives Colorado the strongest data privacy law in the U.S., while privacy advocates say it doesn’t go far enough, prompting one group to call on the governor to veto it.
