Clearview AI Gets €20M French Data Privacy Fine

Clearview AI was fined €20 million for illegally collecting and using personal data through biometric monitoring of people in France.

  • France’s data protection watchdog CNIL levies fine after Clearview didn’t respond to a formal notice to cease the data collection
  • CNIL said its probe follows complaints since 2020 and that it cooperated with its counterparts in other EU nations
  • The probe found several violations of the bloc’s data protection law, GDPR, including the unlawful processing of personal data and a lacking consideration of people’s rights, it says in statement
