Clearview AI Facial Recognition Suit Gets Vermont Green Light (1)

A challenge to Clearview AI Inc.’s use of facial recognition by Vermont’s attorney general can proceed, a state court has ruled.

Attorney General T.J. Donovan (D) filed suit in Vermont Superior Court in June against the Delaware company, alleging its practices related to its facial recognition software violate state consumer protection laws.

Clearview had sought dismissal of the lawsuit, arguing its actions are protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Judge Helen M. Toor denied the company’s request.
