Canadian privacy regulators are investigating whether Clearview AI collected and used personal data in its facial recognition tools without consent.
Regulators will examine whether Clearview AI’s data practices are in line with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and multiple provincial privacy laws, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada said in a statement.
Tech companies’ use of facial recognition is drawing increasing scrutiny from regulators globally. Clearview is facing multiple U.S. lawsuits related to its alleged scraping of tech platform user data.
