Top internet regulatory authorities in China have issued draft interim regulations to govern what personal data private companies collect through mobile applications, in a continued crackdown on the volume of such collection.
The latest draft, which covers 39 categories of commonly used apps including instant messaging, ride-hailing, online shopping and navigational maps, shows China’s authorities are scrutinizing personal data management through the whole app life cycle.
The draft regulations also align with data protection principles laid out in the draft Personal Information Protection Law, a law likely to be finalized later this year.
