Charter Foods Sued Over January Data Breach Affecting 109,000

Charter Foods Inc. allegedly failed to protect the personal information of more than 109,000 customers and employees that was exposed in a January data breach, a new proposed federal class action said.

McKennia Fitch claims that Charter maintained its network in a negligent and reckless manner, rendering it easy prey for cybercriminals, and failed to monitor the network for intrusions, encrypt sensitive information, or properly train its employees.

The company also failed to provide timely notice of the breach to victims, according to a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee.
