CenturyLink Exposed 2.8 Million Customer Records, Lawsuit Claims (1)

CenturyLink Inc. exposed more than 2.8 million consumer records because of weak security in violation of consumer protection rules, a lawsuit in federal court in Washington state alleges.

Plaintiff Noel Woodard claims his exposed data may lead to identity theft and other fraud and cause him out-of-pocket expenses to recover, according to the June 12 complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.

Victims of data breaches generally need to show harm when bringing lawsuits. Courts will toss claims when they find no harm or risk of identity theft.
