CentraState Healthcare System inadequately protected sensitive health data from theft by hackers, putting its New Jersey customers at risk, according to a proposed class action filed Tuesday in New Jersey federal court.
The medical provider was legally obligated to prevent the disclosure of information protected by the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act such as insurance data, patient names, and Social Security numbers, the lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the District of New Jersey by plaintiff Rena Pudder said.
