CareFirst Subscriber Data Breach Claims Revived in Washington

A federal judge in Washington, D.C., revived proposed claims against regional health insurer CareFirst Inc. arising out of a 2014 data breach that compromised the personal information of one million subscribers, according to a recent opinion.

Judge Christopher R. Cooper said Jan. 29 that the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia “may have misplaced” its reliance on precedent that seemed to require at least a reasonable estimate of actual damages to sustain contract claims brought under D.C. law.
