CapCut Users Advance Lawsuit Over ByteDance Data Collection

Beijing-based ByteDance Inc. must face several claims of a proposed class action alleging it collected the personal data of users of its CapCut video-editing app in violation of federal and state privacy laws.

The plaintiffs adequately stated claims of invasion of privacy under the California Constitution, intrusion upon seclusion, larceny, conversion, and violations of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, Judge Georgia N. Alexakis of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois said Monday.
