Tapplock Inc. settled Federal Trade Commission allegations that the company deceived consumers with its claim that internet-connected smart locks were “unbreakable,” the agency said.
The Canada-based company agreed to steps including outside audits of data security updates every two years, the FTC said in a statement.
The no-fault settlement shows how internet-connected devices need to include reasonable security measures. Companies should build protections into products, create a data-security culture and appoint a top official to oversee a comprehensive program, the FTC said in a blog post.
