Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks (D), the bill’s author, said A.B. 1790 would be the first law of its kind in the country.
It won a final vote of 62-0 in the Assembly Sept. 12 and heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who hasn’t taken a position on it. He has until Oct. 13 to sign or veto it.
