California Privacy Law Business Exemptions Extended to 2022

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a bill that extends business-to-business and employment exemptions under the California Consumer Privacy Act to Jan. 1, 2022.

The exemptions apply to personal information used by businesses for emergency contact data and for administering employee benefits. They also apply to certain personal information used in communications or transactions between a business and a third-party individual.

A.B. 1281, which extended the exemptions, passed the state legislature unanimously in August.

The CCPA took effect Jan. 1 and gives California residents the right to access their personal data and request that it not be sold. ...
