California Privacy Agency Aims to Finish Rules By End of 2022

The California Privacy Protection Agency is aiming to complete rulemaking for the California Privacy Rights Act in the third or fourth quarter of 2022, executive director Ashkan Soltani announced.

The first-of-its-kind U.S. state agency, established after Californians in November 2020 voted to update the state’s landmark privacy law, is tasked with promulgating regulations under the statute. Once regulations are established, the agency will also enforce the statute.

The agency plans to host “instructive sessions” in March where experts can give feedback to the board related to rulemaking topics, Soltani said during a CPPA board meeting. It also intends to host ...
