California business representatives are asking state privacy regulators to delay enforcement of proposed regulations, calling the preliminary version confusing and costly to comply with.
The California Privacy Protection Agency began public hearings Wednesday on its plan to implement voter-approved amendments to the state’s landmark privacy law. That initiative, the California Privacy Rights Act, takes effect Jan. 1, with enforcement to begin July 1, 2023.
The dialogue can be viewed as a primer for businesses and advocates in other states where privacy regulation is on the agenda.
