California is targeting expanded disclosure requirements for companies hit by computer hacks, such as hotel owner Marriott International Inc.
A bill proposed by Assemblymember Marc Levine and Attorney General Xavier Becerra would add passport and biometric data to the list of hacked information that triggers state requirements for companies to alert customers, the two Democrats said Feb. 21 in San Francisco. The measure is a response to a string of breaches last year, including the loss of 500 million guest profiles on Marriott’s reservation database, among the biggest in corporate history.
