Big Tech Groups Seek Injunction to Block Texas Social Media Law

Two big tech trade groups sued Texas and its attorney general to block provisions of a looming state law requiring social media providers to get parental consent for minors to create an account.

The Computer & Communications Industry Association and NetChoice LLC argue provisions of the Texas law set to take effect Sept. 1 violate constitutional rights, according to the complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas.

Their injunction request challenges the provisions regulating NetChoice and CCIA member companies with “social media” websites, such as X Corp.‘s X, Google LLC‘s YouTube, ...
