Internet users in Belarus will only be able to post comments on websites after proving their identity, adding a new layer of government oversight in a country striving to develop its tech industry.
The regulation, signed by Prime Minister Sergey Rumas, takes effect Dec. 1 and requires website owners to create logins for their users by sending SMS activation codes. Each phone number can only be used to register a single permanent login per site.
