Becerra Approves More California Consumer Privacy Regulations

Businesses complying with California’s landmark consumer privacy law will have to contend with additional guidelines after Attorney General Xavier Becerra announced new rules Monday.

The California Consumer Privacy Act regulations ban so-called “dark patterns” that obscure the process for opting out of the sale of personal information. Companies in their opt-out notices must use “plain, straightforward language” and should use “minimal steps.”

“The business’s process for submitting a request to opt-out shall not require more steps than that business’s process for a consumer to opt-in to the sale of personal information after having previously opted out,” according to the new ...
