MELBOURNE, Australia—In April, the Australian government inched forward in considering adoption of a data breach notification requirement for businesses.
The country’s data protection authority, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), issued a data security guide and requested public comment on a proposed privacy best practices guide for mobile applications developers and a proposed data de-identification guide.
Also in April, an Australian privacy advocacy group issued a new policy statement on privacy impact assessments. The re-registration period for the country’s no-call list has also been upped from six years to eight years.
