Asurion Faces Computer Fraud Suit After SIM-Swap Crypto Theft

Mobile phone insurer Asurion LLC is facing allegations the company violated federal computer fraud law by giving cybercriminals access to an Ohio man’s account information, allowing them to swipe more than a quarter-million dollars in cryptocurrency through a SIM-swap scam.

The plaintiff, Stephen Smith, alleges that Asurion provided malicious actors with the information they needed to bypass security protocols on his Verizon account, according to the complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
