Ancestry.com Inc. allegedly misappropriated people’s names, photographs, and personal information to promote its services in violation of right to publicity law, according to a proposed class action filed in Indiana federal court.
The Lehi, Utah-based company uses people’s images from old yearbooks to promote its subscription-based services, plaintiff Jason Fry argued in a complaint filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana.
Fry said he has never used Ancestry and didn’t consent to the use of his likeness for Ancestry’s advertising campaigns.
