Texas-based American National Bank & Trust negligently failed to protect the personal information of thousands of customers that was exposed in a January data breach, a proposed federal class said.
Lead plaintiff Brian A. Bishop alleged that American National breached its duties under common law, contract law, industry standards, and the Federal Trade Commission Act to implement reasonable and adequate data-security measures and provide timely notice of the incident.
Information exposed in the breach included names and Social Security numbers, according to a complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
