American Addiction Centers Hit With Health Data Breach Lawsuit

American Addiction Centers Inc. violated federal health privacy laws by failing to defend patient’s data from hackers, a proposed class action says.

The network of substance recovery centers detected suspicious activity on its network on Sept. 26, according to a complaint filed Dec. 27 in the US District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. American Addictions Centers confirmed after an investigation that cybercriminals had infiltrated its systems, potentially accessing the sensitive personal and health information of 422,424 individuals, the complaint said.
