Amazon Takes Loss in Suit Over Sale of Hidden Bathroom Camera

Amazon.com must face a foreign exchange student’s lawsuit alleging it was liable for her injuries as the seller of a camera that her host father hid in a private bathroom and used to take photographs of her, a federal court ruled.

The plaintiff adequately pleaded that the illegal use of the camera made by Darrel Wells, the host father, was foreseeable to Amazon, a threshold requirement for stating common law claims of negligence and outrage, Judge Robert C. Chambers of the US District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia said Thursday.
