Amazon Sued Over Ring Security Camera Facial Recognition Feature

Amazon.com Inc. was accused in a proposed class action of collecting facial recognition data without users’ consent via its Ring security camera’s “Familiar Faces” feature.

Virginia resident Charles Sigwalt, who is seeking to represent all US residents whose facial data was collected, said his facial data was collected as he visited friends and family. The Familiar Faces feature then uses artificial intelligence to categorize visitors and stores facial data for up to six months, he said.
