Amazon, Pindrop Beat Voiceprint Suit by Showing Illinois Absence

Amazon Web Services Inc. and Pindrop Security Inc. beat claims that they collected voiceprints in violation of an Illinois law by showing their activities weren’t connected to the state.

The potential class action lawsuit can’t rely on the state’s Biometric Information Privacy Act because Amazon.com Inc.‘s cloud arm and Pindrop didn’t directly interact with Illinois residents, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois ruled Friday.

The case is over a system call centers and customer service teams use to confirm callers’ identities with their voices.
