Amazon Can’t Avoid Consumer Claims From Capital One Cloud Hack

Amazon.com Inc. can’t avoid liability for its role in a cloud hack that exposed Capital One Financial Corp. data on about 100 million people in the U.S.

The bank and Amazon, its cloud services provider, tried to toss a consumer class action which alleges violations of federal and state laws for safeguarding data and a breach of promised privacy protections. Most of the companies’ arguments against the claims were denied in a Sept. 18 ruling in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
