Amazon Avoids Further Fines as French Data Watchdog Closes Case

French data protection watchdog CNIL closed an injunction procedure against Amazon.com Inc. after the company met a three-month ultimatum to provide changes to the way it manages cookies.

  • CNIL in December fined Amazon EU35m for placing cookies, which track internet usage, on people’s computers without their consent
  • In addition, CNIL gave Amazon three months to provide clarity on changes to the information provided to users, or the company could have faced additional daily fines of EU100,000 euros
