Airbnb’s Identity Verification Program for Patrons Goes Global

Airbnb Inc. is expanding its identity verification program so that all guests booking stays globally must prove their personal details using data or credentials like a driver’s license or passport.

Previously the home-sharing platform rolled out verification for guests booking stays in the platform’s most popular destinations. Now every guest making a booking must be verified, Airbnb said in a blog post Thursday.

Hosts must verify their identity too if they’re the primary person shown to guests on a listing, trip request, or reservation. Some listings may have co-hosts or a team that facilitates guest stays.
