Civil and internet rights groups are calling on lawmakers to restore provisions of federal privacy legislation they say are paramount to protecting American’s civil liberties.

The 56 groups say that, at a minimum, lawmakers must postpone a markup of the discussion draft scheduled for the full House Energy and Commerce Committee Thursday.
