Rapidly developing artificial intelligence tools have reshaped the cybercrime threat landscape by enhancing the effectiveness and breadth of malicious hacks, FBI officials said Wednesday at a privacy conference in Washington, DC.
Cybercriminals, including those from China, Russia, Iran, North Korea,have leveraged the technology to generate more convincing email-driven fraud campaigns, said Cynthia Kaiser, the FBI’s cyber division deputy assistant director. AI has reduced the labor required to roll out attacks, while offering criminals better tools to conceal network breaches, all elements that “dramatically increase malicious cyber actor’s ability to pose personal, business and really, societal impacts,” she said.
