Data broker Acxiom LLC violated state law by selling millions of Virginia residents’ personal information to third parties without consent, according to a federal complaint.
Acxiom’s collection and trade of residents’ personal details violated the Code of Virginia, which gives individuals a property interest in their names and likeness, according to a proposed class action filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
“Acxiom sells people’s identities. That is its business,” the complaint said.
The broker didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
