The American Civil Liberties Union is seeking records on how the U.S. government uses artificial intelligence for national security, including information about the risks such technologies could pose to privacy and other individual rights.
The ACLU’s wide-ranging request, submitted Friday, cites a lack of transparency around what kinds of AI technologies are in use or development and what policies are in place to prevent misuse or bias. Critics say it can be hard to tell how an automated system comes to a particular decision.
