Accellion Agrees to $8.1 Million Settlement Over Data Breach

Victims of an ransomware attack that targeted Accelion Inc. asked a federal judge for preliminary approval of a $8.1 million deal with the file-sharing company over a data breach that compromised the sensitive personal data of over 9 million individuals.

The proposed deal stems from consolidated litigation that alleges that hackers broke into Accellion’s FTA software, which allowed them to steal names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, bank account information, and employment information from many Accellion clients like universities, law firms, and banks.
