7-Eleven Inc. will have to face a proposed class action in Illinois federal court brought by customers who claim that the convenience chain uses in-store cameras with facial recognition technology to collect and store their biometric data without their consent.
Unbeknownst to the average customer, many of the 336 7-Eleven stores in Illinois are outfitted with cameras and video surveillance which have the capacity to collect biometric data, according to the complaint filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
