University of Chicago Medical Center, Medical Business Office, and Trustmark Recovery Services defeated whistleblowers’ claims that they violated the False Claims Act by improperly billing Medicare for patient debt collection services, an Illinois federal court said.
Whistleblowers Kenya Sibley, Jasmeka Collins, and Jessica Lopez failed to adequately allege that the defendants engaged in scheme to falsify invoices and inflate bad debts in University of Chicago’s cost reports, Judge Harry D. Leinenweber of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois said in a Monday decision.
