Pipette Tips Used for Covid-19 Testing in Short Supply, FDA Says

Pipette tips and micro pipettes used in labs for Covid-19 diagnostic and other tests are now on the FDA’s device shortage list, the agency said Wednesday.

The shortage is due to an increased demand for testing supplies as the virus continues to surge. The agency anticipates the supplies will remain scarce for the duration of the public health emergency, according to its website.

Public lab leaders sounded the alarm on pipette and lab equipment shortages months ago. The Food and Drug Administration’s device shortage list is often delayed in formally recognizing which medical products are hard to get. ...
