Organ Donors Can Recoup Child-Care Expenses Under HHS Rule (1)

Organ donors will be able to recover lost wages, child-care costs, and other expenses incurred from undergoing the surgical procedure under a regulatory change that aims to remove barriers to donation.

The final rule issued Friday by the HHS seeks to curb the number of Americans who die while waiting for an organ by eliminating financial disincentives to becoming a donor. The regulation carries out part of President Donald Trump’s executive order to reboot Medicare’s approach to kidney care, in an effort to ease one of the largest domestic drains on taxpayers.
