Organ Donation Research Stakeholders Look to Improve Oversight of Process

Clarity is needed on how federal regulations to protect human subjects can benefit research on donor organ transplants as well as management of the donor process, a working group said during a conference that ended Sept. 17.

The Organ Donation and Transplantation Alliance, a group of national organizations that work in organ donation and procurement, also said in the two-day consensus conference on donor management research that there should be a national institutional review board (IRB) to oversee all donor transplant research.
