New York Doctor Pleads Guilty to Taking Kickbacks From Insys (1)

It didn’t take Alexandru Burducea long to realize he wasn’t actually being paid to give PowerPoint presentations about Insys Therapeutics Inc.’s opioid-based painkiller Subsys at company-sponsored dinners in late 2014.

The New York doctor initially thought the dinners were legitimate events aimed at educating other physicians about the fentanyl-based spray, but sometimes there were multiple doctors attending the same dinner on behalf of the company, and often no presentations were made. Soon, Burducea said, it became clear that he was simply being paid to write prescriptions of the drug.
