Mylan Launches Generic Version of Caduet

Pittsburgh-based Mylan Inc. Dec. 1 announced that its subsidiary, Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc., has launched a generic version of Pfizer Inc.'s hypertension drug Caduet (amlodipine besylate and atorvastatin calcium tablets).

Mylan said it has started shipping this product.

Caduet tablets had U.S. sales of approximately $339 million for the 12 months ended Sept. 30, according to IMS Health. One of the drug’s ingredients, atorvastatin calcium, is the active ingredient in Pfizer’s Lipitor, which was launched recently as a generic by Ranbaxy and as an authorized generic by Watson (9 PLIR 1487, 12/2/11).
