Multiple Generic Versions of Alzheimer’s Drug Aricept Receive Approval From FDA

The Food and Drug Administration approved 15 abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs) for generic versions of Aricept (donepezil hydrochloride) May 31, according to FDA’s website.

The branded medication, a product of Eisai Inc., is used to treat mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s-type dementia. All the generics that were approved are for donepezil hydrochloride (HCl) in 5 mg and 10 mg strengths.

Generic drug company Sandoz June 1 announced FDA approval and the U.S. market launch of donepezil hydrochloride (HCl) film-coated tablets and donepezil HCl orally-disintegrating tablets (ODT).
