Mentor Gets $4M Punitive Award Halved in Mesh Suit

Johnson & Johnson unit Mentor Corp. won a partial victory in a pelvic mesh suit, as a federal judge halved a jury’s $4 million punitive award in accordance with Florida damage caps (In re Mentor Corp. Transobturator Sling Prod. Liab. Litig., 2016 BL 349908, M.D. Ga., No. 12-176, 10/20/16).

Evidence supported the jury’s $400,000 compensatory award to plaintiff Teresa Taylor, and the finding that Mentor’s conduct regarding the ObTape warranted punitive damages, Judge Clay D. Land of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia said Oct. 20.
