Measles Cases Prompt Lawmakers to Pressure CDC on Vaccination

Measles outbreaks that have stricken more than 100 people so far this year have gotten lawmakers’ attention.

In both the House and Senate, the top panels that oversee federal public-health programs plan to hold hearings on the anti-vaccination movement that has been blamed for the resurgence of the highly infectious disease, which the U.S. declared eradicated in 2000.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee’s oversight hearing is scheduled for Feb. 27; the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee’s hearing is scheduled for March 5. Both hearings were announced late Feb. 14.
