Louisiana’s Abortion Doctor Privileges Law Won’t Get New Look

A federal appeals court won’t take a second look at a Louisiana law that requires physicians who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit Jan. 18 denied full court review of the Louisiana Unsafe Abortion Protection Act. A three-judge panel upheld the law in September 2018.

The panel’s opinion opens the door for the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit Roe v. Wade, the seminal ruling legalizing abortion nationwide, reproductive rights analyst Elizabeth Nash told Bloomberg Law at the time.
