Lawsuit Blames Anti-Smoking Drug For Violent Episode Leading to Deaths

The estates of a couple killed in an apparent murder-suicide two years ago May 9 sued Chantix maker Pfizer Inc., alleging the smoking cessation drug caused the husband’s violent episode that led to the deaths (Erdlen v. Pfizer Inc.).

Pfizer marketed the drug without adequately warning of its propensity to cause neuropsychiatric side effects, including suicidal behavior and aggression, according to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
