Lack of Diversity in Clinical Trials Merits Study, Lawmaker Says

The barriers keeping women, minorities, the poor, and aging from joining clinical research studies at a wide swath of agencies deserves Government Accountability Office scrutiny, a top lawmaker said.

A bill (HR 1966) introduced by Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) would have the GAO study these barriers at the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs, the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
