A near-total abortion ban took effect Friday across Iowa, after Gov.
Reynolds signed into law House File 732, which bans abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. The Iowa General Assembly passed the bill late Tuesday night, after Reynolds called the Republican-led Legislature back into a special session to pass a six-week measure. The state previously prohibited abortions after 20 weeks. But Reynolds’ signature on HF 732 puts the stricter restrictions into effect immediately.
